Jaka is a brave, joyful, and playful 9-year-old boy who loves swimming, drawing, reading, and discovering new things. He is determined not to be different from other children, and his positive spirit inspires everyone around him. Bright, sociable, and full of life, Jaka dreams of a future like any other child’s.

But Jaka is facing a serious challenge. He suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a rare genetic disease that weakens his muscles and takes away abilities most children take for granted. Jaka can no longer run, walk long distances, or climb stairs. The disease progresses quickly — most children with DMD lose the ability to walk by the age of 12, later lose the use of their arms, and eventually face heart and breathing complications. Life expectancy is heartbreakingly short, often no more than 25 years.

Yet there is hope. Thanks to medical progress, a breakthrough genetic therapycalled ELEVIDYS has been approved in the United States and is already helping children with DMD. In April, doctors at Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida confirmed that Jaka is an eligible candidate for this treatment. The cost of giving Jaka this chance at life, however, is staggering: €3.2 million. We want to raise this amount by the end of December 2025 to make treatment possible.
